Michael McMurphy

Former Chief Executive Officer of Orano USA

Michael A. McMurphy has been a part of Orano Med from before its inception. As a member of the “Innovation Award” panel, he played a key role in selecting the lead-212 project and has been a strong advocate for Orano Med’s development from the very beginning.

With over 30 years of executive experience in the nuclear and energy industry, Michael served on the U.S. Department of Energy’s legal staff before joining Areva, where he later became U.S. CEO. He was a member of the Nuclear Energy Institute’s board for a decade and served on the advisory council of Texas A&M’s nuclear engineering department. From 2008 to 2013, he was based in Paris as Senior Executive Vice President of Areva. He also served on the boards of several French companies, including Eurodif and SET, two multinational uranium enrichment companies. Upon returning to the U.S., Michael held the roles of Executive Vice President and Vice Chair of Areva. Until his retirement in 2014. He is currently a Senior Fellow for the U.S. Nuclear Industry Council.

Michael is a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy (BS), St. Mary's University (MA), and The University of Texas School of Law. He is admitted to practice before several courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court. In recognition of his contributions to U.S.-French industrial relations, he has been honored as a Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur and Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite. He also earned two Meritorious Service Medals during his active duty with the U.S. Air Force and was cited in the Congressional Record for his impact on transatlantic industry collaboration.
